Interview Magazine

The idea of being “openly gay” was still rare and dangerous in the 1960s, when Andy Warhol began to dominate the culture. Whether it was Joe Dallesandro’s nudity in his movies, surrounded by drag queens (which was the only name we had for women who would now be considered either "Trans or Non-binary", as they lived their entire lives as women. Andy’s Warhol’s Interview featured a cavalcade of celebrities, including some of the biggest movie stars of the day, often gay icons like Liz Taylor, or his own “Superstars.” While the material was not entirely gay, Interview magazine presented gay and straight culture side-by- side in a way that normalized the cross-over cultures of the the 1970s.
