Donna Summer
Boston girl makes good. After meeting producer Giorgio Moroder in Germany when she was in a production of Hair, they began a collaboration that would bring "Love to Love You Baby" to dance floors in 1975, basically the first shot fired in the disco revolution, beating Saturday Night Fever by two years. The even better "I Feel Love" followed in 1977, and within the next five years, Donna Summer was consistently on the Rock Charts, and simultaneously named the "Queen of Disco." Beloved and supported by the gay community, there was a huge explosion when it was reported that Summer had made comments against the LGBTQ+ at the height of the AIDS epidemic. She very quickly came out and claimed the comments were false: it created a rift that never completely healed.
